Born Sydney, Australia, 1971
Bachelor of Fine Arts, College of Fine Arts, UNSW, 1990-94
Glenn “Glenno” Smith has participated in 39 group exhibitions, 5 solo exhibitions, and has curated many shows including 4 major exhibitions at the Orange Regional Gallery. He curates an ongoing series of shows at Beach Burrito Company, Newtown, for established as well as up-an-coming artists (40 so far).
He would classify himself as an art-mercenary, giving almost anything a go including having worked in the vocational arts in screen-printing factories; designing for stone-masons; as well as promotional companies.
Since 2005, he has freelanced, mainly as an illustrator, for magazines, garment companies and publishers. Additionally, he has published comics, books, posters, t-shirts of his own, as well as doing murals, shop fit-outs, web-design and storyboarding.
He is better known for his illustration for punk and heavy metal bands, both in Australia and Overseas, drawing upon his life-long immersion in the underground of comics, music and arts of the D.I.Y. scene.
Recently, his focus has shifted from satirical folk art to gallery standard art pieces, especially screen-printed posters and lino-cuts, with a view to exhibiting overseas and a solo show for the end of 2015.
